The AMEC Mining and the Environment Conference 2017 was held on 1-2 March at City West Receptions in West Perth. The theme of the conference was to investigate the collaborative approach between industry and Government to achieve the best environmental outcomes and processes.
The Conference opened with talks from Hon Albert Jacob MLA, Minister for Environment, Heritage; Bill Johnston MLA, Shadow Minister for State Development, Energy, Mines and Petroleum, Ports and Hon Robin Chapple MLC, Member for Mining and Pastoral Region. Following their talks they answered questions from the audience on their policy positions in the lead up to the WA State Election.
The event also featured presentations on Future Environmental Management in the Mining Industry; Mine Closure and Rehabilitation; Managing Revegetation and Meeting Environmental Obligations.
The four finalists from the 2016 AMEC Environment Award presented their projects all of which featured innovations and improvements to the sector’s environmental practices.
The conference closed with a discussion in whether Environmental Reform helps or hinders Productivity? It featured Dr Tim Griffin, Acting Director General. Department of Mines and Petroleum; Kim Taylor, General Manager, Office of the Environmental Protection Authority; Troy Collie, Project Director - Environment & Approvals, Mount Gibson Iron and Sally Audeyev, Partner, King and Wood Mallesons.
