Environment and Sustainable Development

AMEC recognises the importance of sustainable environmental management and biodiversity protection, as part of a broad "triple bottom line" approach that includes financial, social and environmental sustainability.

AMEC notes that the international minerals sector has taken the lead in sustainable development with developing and encouraging the adoption of the International Council of Minerals and Mining Sustainable Development Framework and Principles. AMEC supports these principles.

In relation to the environmental regulatory processes that affect the mining industry, AMEC believes that an efficient and effective system that balances the "triple bottom line" factors is essential, recognising that environmental protection and mining activity can coexist.
